I will be doing Cancer Council's “The March Charge”
This year in Australia an estimated 162,000 people will hear the words "you have cancer". Words my family has unfortunately had to hear not once but twice.
Firstly my mum being diagnosed with Breast Cancer then 6 weeks later my oldest brother being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. The word cancer was forced into our vocabulary and with no mercy. Two family members going through chemo at the same time is rare but it was the hand we were dealt. Being on the sidelines while watching your loved ones fight for their lives is a feeling that i’ll never be able to truly describe, helpless comes to mind though. Although I will never be able to take their pain away I'm doing my part to make a change by being active and fundraising for ALL people impacted by cancer.
I will be running 485km for “The March Charge” starting on March 1st to raise funds and awareness for world-class cancer research, prevention programs, and support services. 485km is an extremely specific distance. I will be running this exact number of kilometres as this was the number of days my mum had to fight off this horrible disease.
Please donate today to make every KM count! Every dollar raised will help support Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services (like their free, confidential Information and Support line 13 11 20) for people affected by cancer.
As i’m sure the 485km is gonna kick my ass, my main focus will be remembering how every kilometre I run is only a day of my mum and brother kicking cancers ass.
