I'm taking on Cancer Council's The March Charge...
I am participating in the March Charge this month, a movement aimed at raising funds for those impacted by cancer. Late last year my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent two surgeries and radiotherapy. Having just finished her treatment in January, we found out two weeks ago that her sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer, after battling it a decade ago. Due to her previous treatment, my aunty cannot undergo radiotherapy again, making her journey even more challenging. Although my Aunty’s ongoing treatment is still being decided, she is scheduled to have a mastectomy in a month. Their courage in the face of uncertainty, their love and care for others, continue to inspire me every day. It is in their honour that I take on this challenge.
Through my participation in this challenge, I aim to raise funds that will contribute to cancer research, prevention, and advocacy programs. Every dollar raised has the power to make a meaningful impact, offering hope to those affected by this disease. Despite being unwell for the past week, I have set a personal goal of running/walking 160km by the end of March. Last year, the average Charger raised $374, however I am determined to reach $2000.
This year over 162,000 Australians will hear the words “you have cancer.’’ 1 in 3 cancers can be prevented. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a real difference. Whether it's a donation or simply sharing my fundraiser with friends and family, every action counts.
