The March Charge 2026

I'm Charging for my Myself

Here we go again

Last year, I shared part of my journey,  swallowing a single capsule of radioactive iodine and spending four days alone behind a door marked with a yellow nuclear sign.

What I didn’t expect was that twelve months later, I would be doing it again.

Another round of RAI. Another capsule. Another moment of watching the medical team keep their distance as I became “radioactive” once more. There’s something confronting about knowing the treatment meant to heal you also requires isolation from the world.

This time felt different. I knew what was coming, the silence, the separation, the stillness. But knowing doesn’t necessarily make it easier. It just makes you braver in a quieter way.

Cancer has a way of teaching patience you never asked for. It tests your resilience, your mindset, and your ability to sit with uncertainty. A second round of treatment wasn’t part of the plan, but it was part of the path.

Once again, I leaned on the incredible support and resources provided by the Cancer Council. From practical information to emotional support, their presence makes an isolating experience feel less lonely.

If you’ve supported me before, thank you. If you’re able to contribute to my fundraiser now, it truly means more than I can say. Every donation helps fund research, support services, and guidance for people walking this road, sometimes more than once.

Healing isn’t always linear. But neither is strength. 💛

My Cancer Journey

Last year, I underwent radioactive iodine treatment.
I swallowed a single capsule from a lead container and became radioactive. The two doctors assisting me—standing no closer than 2 metres and dressed in protective aprons—couldn’t wait to get away. I was “hot.”
For four days, I sat alone in a room with a yellow nuclear sign on the door, a constant reminder of my isolation. No one was allowed in, and I wasn’t allowed out. My meals were left at the door, and occasionally, a call would come through to check if I was 'okay'.
It was a challenging time, but I’m incredibly grateful to have had access to the Cancer Council’s resources during this experience. Their support made a difference for me, and now I’m determined to pay it forward in any way I can.
If you’re able to contribute to my fundraiser, your support would mean the world. Every donation helps, no matter the size. 💛
