I'm taking on The March Charge and dedicating my fundraiser to Robyn and Quinn

Hey! I am joining The March Charge and running 85km this month to raise money for the Cancer Foundation and cancer research! 


I am dedicating my fundraiser to two very special people in my life, my life long theatre teacher, Miss Robyn, and one of my musical theatre students, Quinn, both currently undergoing cancer treatment. 


I encourage you to donate, and if you are unable to, the least you can do is read through their stories.


Robyn: 

My theatre teacher, Robyn, known to me as Miss Robyn. Robyn was my next door neighbour and encouraged me to come along and join BYTES when I was 8. I spent the next 10 years growing up with her. More than a teacher, Robyn is a second Mother to me. Every success and opportunity I’ve had has been because of her constant support and guidance. 


Recently, Robyn was diagnosed with breast cancer. Towards the end of last year, in the middle of our busy show season, she was 6 months overdue for her regular monogram. When she went to be checked, she was told she had breast cancer. A lumpectomy was performed and it was discovered that 8 out of 11 of the lymph nodes taken showed signs of cancer. She’s currently going through harsh chemo over the course of the next 3 months. 


Her beautiful hair has fallen out. 


Her compromised immune system means she cannot come to BYTES at certain times of her chemo cycle. She misses it so much.


Whilst she is in great hands, and has our strong community behind her, I couldn’t help but wanting to play my part and give back to her the way she has given to me, and every child she teaches. 


Quinn:

I am lucky enough to still be apart of the BYTES community, as I now get to teach the classes I grew up in. Quinn is one of the students in my specialist musical theatre class and is an amazing talent. I had the honour of teaching her for over 2 years and watching her shine


Unfortunately, Quinn fell very ill November last year. After finding a mass on her abdomen, Quinn was diagnosed with cancer. At 13, the cancer had spread into her lymph node in her groin, stomach and abdomen. She is  currently in the middle of a long 9 months of treatment. 


I am in awe of her. She is the bravest and most resilient kid I have ever met. I am incredibly proud and honoured to be dedicating this fundraiser to her.
