I'm Charging for my Husband, Paul
I'm taking on The March Charge...
This March I’m taking part in The March Charge again as it’s deeply personal. Four years ago, our world shifted overnight. My husband, fit & active, was diagnosed with bladder cancer after minor symptoms and luckily a cautious GP. He is doing well at the moment, and we’re grateful every day, but we’re not past cancer. It lives with us daily. The fear, the watchfulness, the “what if” never switch off.
Bladder cancer is rarely talked about. It sits in the most private parts of life (below the belt literally), affecting dignity, intimacy, identity and reshaping daily life around basic human functions that are now time-bound and restrictive. Much of this is invisible and carried quietly. Sadly, the suicide rate for older men with this cancer is higher than many others.
From the outside, life can look normal. Many see us on adventures. But behind the scenes there are limits, adjustments, and realities that don’t disappear with time. This is why awareness matters, because this cancer is real, ongoing even if you survive, and still too often overlooked as it receives less funding than higher-profile cancers.
There’s no pressure here. So many of you have already supported us, and that kindness has carried us further than you know. If you feel able to sponsor me, I would be truly grateful. And if not, simply taking a moment to read, understand, and help raise awareness still means a great deal.
This March, every step is for awareness, for bladder cancer, and for the people living with any cancer and its reality every single day. 💙
