My Inspiration - My Mum

I am going to dive straight into this blog and give you some insight into why I am doing this.

Mum….The most important figure in any child’s life!

On March 17th 2023 my mum Nancy lost her battle with cancer, something we believe she battled with for years knowing but not wanting to upset any of us so she never told us.
On February 17th 2023 mums health declined she tried to cover it up but after 11 days of staying in Hospital she forced herself out of Hospital to tell us at home that she had cancer. I knew it was bad, I couldn’t stop the tears feeling so vulnerable and angry in that moment, why me? The next weeks were even harder, my mum was dying in front of me and I couldn’t help her!!! I tried to stay busy and I was scared to be left alone with her in case something happened while I was alone with her because I was so scared.
Cancer is really horrible I am grateful that my mum lived until she couldn’t live anymore, she spent the last 4 weeks of her life in pain, struggling daily and being super vulnerable a side of her I had never seen. My mum died exactly one month after her first hospital visit when we knew something was wrong.

My mum was crazy, loud, fun and so incredibly loved by everyone around her.  My mum was my hero, she drove me absolutely insane because no matter what her age was she never stopped having fun, she never stopped living!!!

I don’t know what life has in store for us but I know I’m going to stay positive because she hated when we were upset, we were told every single day how loved we were and if I didn’t talk to her every single week she would check in just to tell me that she loves me and I am forever grateful to be called her daughter.

She was a single mum, we struggled for money when I was young, we had no car, sometimes barely any food but she always made us feel so incredibly special for our birthdays and for Christmas and made sure we had a wonderful life. It wasn’t until I was older I realised how poor we really were but it didn’t matter we had love and she made us feel like we were never without.

She put herself through Uni and finished her PHD in Psychology as a mature age student. Limits didn’t exist for my mum.

I had always heard you have no idea what you have until it’s gone and that is so true.
I lost my mum, my hero, my friend and my inspiration for so many things.

I have never done this but I don’t expect much either, even a $5 donation is special it’s still helping to find a cure so no one has to suffer like my mum and my family did.

My Son, my Husband and my Aunty (mums sister) are joining as a team to honour my mum this March and we thought it fitting giving that this March is one year since we lost her to cancer.

I'm taking on Cancer Council's The March Charge...

...a month-long fitness challenge to raise funds for world-class cancer research, prevention programs, and support services

This year in Australia an estimated 162,000 people will hear the words "you have cancer", I'm doing my part to change this by getting active and fundraising for people impacted by cancer.

Please sponsor me today to make every KM count! Every dollar raised will help support Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services (like their free, confidential Information and Support line 13 11 20) for people affected by cancer.

Let's tell cancer where to go!

So far this year I’ve helped provide:

176 kids with a SunSmart education

or

8 calls to trained cancer professionals on 13 11 20

or

2 days of a PHD student’s world-class research
