I'm Charging for my Dad, Tim Johnson
Why I’m Charging
This year, I’m taking part in the March Charge for the first time in honour of my dad.
My Dad battled esophageal adenocarcinoma for two years. Two years of appointments, treatments, setbacks, small wins, and more courage than I’ve ever witnessed in one person. He lost his battle in December 2025.
My dad carried his diagnosis with a quiet strength and determination that still inspires me every day. He didn’t pretend it wasn’t hard but he faced it head on. Even in the middle of his own fight, he was thinking about others constantly. Wanting to help. That was just who he was.
He passed away, but his influence didn’t.
If I can do 150km’s throughout the month, if I can raise funds, if I can help support research or support another family walking this road even in a small way, then I feel like I’m carrying a piece of him forward.
This isn’t about doing something extraordinary. It’s about doing something meaningful. It’s about turning grief into action. It’s about continuing his legacy of helping others. It’s about making a difference, however small.
Dad inspired me in his life, and he still inspires me now.
This March, every step I take is for him.
The March Charge begins tomorrow and runs for the entire month, so there’s plenty of time to follow along, cheer me on, or donate if you feel moved to. I would be so grateful for a contribution of any size. Your support will help fund vital cancer research and support services for families facing this devastating disease. Thank you for helping me honour my dad in a way that truly makes a difference.
