I'm taking on The March Charge for my beautiful Mum, Elaine...
Our family has been affected by Cancer, like so many other families.
Our beautiful Mum passed away very recently (31st January 2026). I’m absolutely heartbroken, and want to do this in her honour. Mum was diagnosed with Oesophagus Cancer almost a year ago, and unfortunately it was already locally advanced. Mum had 2 weeks of radiation treatment which gave her a better quality of life and more time, for which we are so grateful to the medical team (Dr Connell, Dr McGregor and Dr Rajagopalan). She was then diagnosed with Dementia a few months later, but was likely suffering for quite some time before that.
Mum endured two of the most horrible diseases with amazing strength and inspiring dignity. It has been an incredibly difficult time for our family. We miss her so much already. She was an amazing support to all of us children, always asking and showing an interest in our lives. It has been a privilege to care for her this last 12+ months, and it was amazing to have the support of the caring and supportive staff at Estia Health Parkside nursing home for her final months.
I appreciate any support to honour our special and much loved Mum, and to support the wonderful work that the Cancer Council do - they have been an incredible support to me, both over the phone and in person. Thank you
