Walking for the Women Who Fought — and the Ones We Lost

Cancer has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Before I was even born, my mum was diagnosed with cervical cancer. My grandfather and grandmother both lost their lives to cancer. Growing up, “the big C” wasn’t just something you heard about on TV — it was something that shaped our family story.

And yet, in the middle of that heartbreak, I’ve also witnessed something incredible.

My best friend fought cancer — and won.

My older sister fought cancer — and won.

The strength. The courage. The fight.

I’ve seen what cancer takes from people.

But I’ve also seen what love, medicine, research, and pure determination can give back.

This is my first time ever doing something like this. I’m not running a marathon. I’m not climbing a mountain.

But I am committing to walking — at least once every single day.

Because if my best friend and my sister can fight and beat cancer, then surely I can put one foot in front of the other.

Every step I take is for:

My grandparents, who didn’t get the chance to win their fight.

My mum, who survived before I even took my first breath.

My best friend and my sister, who showed me what strength truly looks like.

Every family who has heard the words, “It’s cancer.”

Cancer research saves lives. It saved my mum. It saved my sister. It saved my best friend.

But there are still too many families losing people they love.
